The “events” category of Historical Changes is one of the best ways to learn about the milestones that shaped the world as we know it. Learning about many of these historical events might help us create our own technological breakthroughs – and learn from big historical mistakes.

One of the biggest factors in fostering an environment for WWII was the fact that the treaties of surrender of WWI were too harsh. After WWII the victorious countries showed compassion and didn’t make the same mistake twice.

Big Events on TV

When it comes to global viewership on TV - Superbowls, M.A.S.H. finales, and Who Shot JR can’t compete with events that have a large worldwide interest. For instance, over 600 million people watched the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. Compare that to a Superbowl that typically has 30 - 40 million US viewers.

Another event that had worldwide appeal was the satellite broadcast for Elvis Presley’s 1973 live show "Aloha from Hawaii" which had 1 billion viewers globally, and had a huge viewership in Asian countries.

On a more somber note, the top 2 events of all-time were funerals. The funeral of Princess Diana was watched by 2 billion people worldwide, and more recently, the funeral of Michael Jackson was seen by 2.75 billion worldwide.
