On October 28, 1886 the Statue of Liberty had its official dedication ceremony with President Grover Cleveland on hand. Engineers from the US and France performed an assessment of the Statue of Liberty in 1982 in anticipation of its 1986 centennial anniversary. It was announced that the statue was in need of a huge renovation. $350 million was raised from donations and the repairs began so that on the weekend of July 4, 1986 the Statue of Liberty was reopened. |
