Statue of Liberty

Funding in for the Statue of Liberty was increased by the help of newspaper journalist Joseph Pulitzer. Pulitzer used many articles in the editorial section of his newspaper The New York World to raise awareness on how citizens of the US were contributing to the Statue of Liberty. Joseph Pulitzer created a drive to raise $100,000 for the Statue of Liberty fund, which is comparable to $2.4 million in todays dollars. He published articles about people from all walks-of-life that contributed. He wrote articles about: a young girl who gave 60 cents, a dollar from a lonely widow, and a kindergarten class that gave $1.35.
