Galileo Galilei

One of Galileo’s first astronomical discoveries was the fact that Jupiter had moons. When Galileo observed Jupiter with his telescope he made notations and drawings of several nearby “stars” of around Jupiter. Did you find the 3 changes? Click to see the next puzzle.

After several months of observing these “stars” around Jupiter, Galileo watched as they appeared to circle around the planet. Galileo proposed that these were moons similar to earth’s moon. This discovery of moons around Jupiter would become the first of several observations to refute that the Earth was the center of the universe (geocentric theory).
