Construction of the second Jewish Temple (site of the Wailing Wall) began in 538 BC and was completed in 515 BC. The temple stood for many centuries and fell into disrepair. King Herod made significant renovations of the temple around 20 BC. This temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
