Golden Gate Bridge

     

Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge was similar to most suspension bridges. The two towers were completed first and the suspension wires were hung between the towers. Joseph Strauss was very concerned with the safety of his workers. The unpredictable ocean winds made working on the bridge very hazardous. Strauss developed an expensive and revolutionary safety net that saved the lives of 19 workers.
