Vasco da Gama
Then on May 20, 1498 Vasco da Gama reached the coast of Calicut India. He stayed in India for several months and embarqued on his trip back to Portugal on August 29, 1498.

Vasco da Gama finally returned back to Portugal on September, 1499. He returned with only 2 ships and only 59 of his 170 men. Most of his crew perished from scurvy. Upon return, he and his remaining crew received a heros welcome. |
