Not much is known about Vasco da Gama's childhood, but his father was a knight in the court of the Duke of Viseu.

A little known fact was that his father (Estevoa da Gama) became an explorer and that King Emanuel I commissioned him to find the trade route to India. Unfortunately Estevoa died before he could begin his quest. |
