Gandhi

After World War II Britain decided to give India their independence. Gandhi did not like the proposal of dividing up India into Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh countries. Violence broke out protesting both sides of the division of India. Gandhi went on a hunger strike and as news spread the violence subsided.

On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated while walking to a prayer meeting by a radical Hindu extremist named Nathuram Godse. Gandhi's ashes were placed into multiple urns and sent throughout cities in India for memorial services.
