Florence Nightingale

     

Florence Nightingale wanted to greatly reform the Army hospitals, but was met with strong opposition from the top military officials. They viewed Florence Nightingale as an assault of their ability to command – having a woman second-guessing them. Because of bad public relations back in England, the commanders eventually let Florence Nightingale have her way. Nightingale re-engineered the layout of the hospitals allowing for more sanitary conditions and reducing the mortality rate of wounded soldiers.
