The fleet landed in Brazil and sailed south along the coast towards the bottom tip of South America, and stopped for several months in the Patagonia region. During this time a mutiny occurred and they lost a ship, but the crew pressed onward.
As they left Patagonia the crew made their way southward and came upon the Straits of Magellan on the southern tip of the continent of South America. The straits were dangerous and the passing took nearly a month.
