Thomas Edison

     

In 1869, because of the successes of his telegraph inventions, Edison decided to become a full-time inventor. Edison built his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey in 1876. He created devices like the Edison Universal Stock Ticker, and a carbon transmitter for telephones. In 1879, Thomas Edison unveiled his biggest invention, the first commercially feasible light bulb. Others had created rudimentary light bulbs, but would go out after a couple of hours. On New Year's Eve of 1879, Edison held a public demonstration of his electric light bulb, and spectators were amazed. The invention of the light bulb caused a huge demand for electricity.
