Nicolaus Copernicus

     

In 1496, Copernicus met the famous astronomer Domenico Maria Novara da Ferrara who was professor at the University of Bologna. Copernicus became Novaras student and then co-worker. Did you find the 3 changes? Click to see the next puzzle.

Novara and Copernicus viewed a lunar occultation (where the moon blocks out a star) of the star Aldebaran. Copernicus analyzed this observation and used mathematics to contradict Ptolemy's theory of the moons distance from earth.
