Leonardo began creating notebooks with ideas and drawings that reveal his scientific interests. The books are considered da Vincis manuscript because they contained much of his writing, but are renowned for the beautifully illustrated drawings. In 1507 Leonardo da Vinci finished what would be the most famous painting in the world - the Mona Lisa. The popularity of the painting rests on the distinctive smile on the woman. Leonardo painted in a shadowy style which was called "sfumato" or Leonardo's smoke. |
