The American Revolutionary War officially began on April 19, 1775 with battles in the towns of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. The first shot fired of the battle was dubbed the shot heard round the world. In the battles 500 minutemen fended off 700 British troops. The victory was attributed to colonial intelligence gathering and Paul Reveres famous ride the night before warning that British troops were marching to Lexington.
