The Alamo

The initial objective of The Alamo was to act as a mission to help convert Native Americans to Christianity. There were many smaller missions that expanded into the surrounding areas around the Alamo.

Several decades later The Alamo was abandoned as the missionaries had moved into other areas to spread their Christian message. In 1803, the Mexican Army took control of the compound and gave it the name The Alamo.
